Meskouta is the Moroccan name for the simple yogurt cake, most often served for the “gouter” or tea time to accompany a steaming glass of mint tea. Comfort on your plate!

Traditionally, meskouta’s are vanilla and orange flavored, but this particular recipe combines that delicious orange flavor with chocolate, always a winning combination. And who doesn’t love chocolate?

Here's what you'll need

  • eggs

  • small container plain yogurt

  • granulated sugar

  • all purpose flour

  • cocoa powder

  • 2 oranges

  • baking powder

  • vanilla (or vanilla sugar packets)

Once you have preheated your oven to 350F, prep your Bundt pan (grease with butter and then flour). Beat together yogurt, vegetable oil, sugar, eggs, orange zest, and orange juice. Then stir in vanilla, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Beat until smooth. Pour batter Bundt pan and bake 40-45 minutes. Et voila!

Our family loves having it as an afternoon snack with mint tea (see recipe). It can also make for a delicious sweet breakfast on the go!
